In designing this engine, the engineers were given a completely free hand. Developed from the 3-litre version, this engine offers greater power, thanks to revised timing, fuel supply and electronics systems. Changes to the crankshaft lengthened the stroke to 78 mm, thus increasing the capacity to 3.2 litres. This was done to obtain not only outstanding performance and high peaks of power output and torque, but also extra smooth delivery even at low speeds. Other changes were made too: the cooling system has been upgraded and the transmission has been reinforced, whilst the exhaust manifolds have been optimised. The resulting engine is equally at home on the track or in everyday use around town.
