Sportiness and control
Performance is important, but safety is fundamental. Today, sportiness means this too. Alfa Romeo proves it: starting with the indeformable passenger cabin on its cars, conceived as a survival cell, protected by side impact bars and crumple zones to absorb impacts. Tested in the most rigorous crash tests. Then there is the standard FPT Fire Prevention System, which interrupts fuel delivery in the event of a significant impact.
The Alfa 147 has been engineered for safety. When required, a sophisticated electronic control unit activates the passive safety devices. The cars feature six airbags: front ones for the driver and front seat passenger (that can be deactivated), two side airbags found in the front seatbacks, and two window airbags that protect the heads of passengers from the side.
There are also inertia-reel front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, and a collapsible telescopic steering column. Naturally, this all comes as standard.
Attention to the driver and front seat passenger in terms of safety is paramount in the Alfa 156 and Sportwagon. The seats are made partly of magnesium and they have a transverse anti-submarining feature. Pre-tensioners, and a complete airbag system: front driver’s side, front seat passenger’s side, side airbags found in the front seatbacks, and two window airbags that protect the heads of passengers from the side.
Active Safety
Stuck to the road
Sophisticated engineering solutions have been used to offer the highest possible level of active safety and that unmistakeable driving pleasure that is typical of every Alfa Romeo.
The interactive electronic systems include:
- ABS: Antilock Braking System. Standard on all models.
- EBD: Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. Distributes the braking force between the front and rear wheels. Standard on all models.
- ASR: Antislip Regulation. Limits spinning of the driving wheels when accelerating. Standard on all models.
- MSR: Prevents wheel locking when changing down hurriedly. Available on the Alfa 147, GT and 159.
- VDC: Vehicle Dynamic Control. Controls the dynamic stability of the car. Available on the Alfa 147, GT and 159.
