The new Alfa 147 uses the most innovative technologies to ensure effective vehicle control in any situation and achieve both safety and driving pleasure.
Excellent road-holding, even on low-grip terrain, puts this new Alfa model at the apex of its vehicle class. The credit goes to the highly reliable floor-pan, with improved torsional and flexural stiffness, designed to work in unison with the new high double wishbone” front suspension, derived from F1 race cars, that exalts the stability of front drive by anticipating the inclination of the axle when entering a bend, resulting in maximised adherence.
The rear suspension relies on a McPherson set-up with independent wheels. A new suspension system has been developed to enhance the sensation of comfort even further, through high levels of stability, ease of handling, vibration damping, the ability to neutralise road irregularities and sharp bends.
Extremely safe is the hydraulic braking system, muted and servo-assisted, fitted with ventilated, bigger-sized disk brakes at front and solid disk brakes with floating callipers at rear.
New generation technology is also embodied in the electronic safety devices, such as Bosch ABS with integrated EBD, two independent circuits in cross configuration ensuring bilateral control in the event of a fault and the ASR, that ensures maximum grip when cornering or accelerating, even on highly irregular surfaces.
Stability in limit conditions is enhanced by the VDC, Alfa Romeo’s original interpretation of the ESP, and the MSR, while the Brake Assist system optimises the braking action in panic braking.
Steering precision makes for effective control of the vehicle trajectory, resulting in safer driving in any situation.
Safety first and foremost. Alfa Romeo protects you every time you get behind the wheel, with an efficient system of active and passive safety equipment.
The Alfa 147 is impeccable on the road. Take its braking for example, which counts on the high torsional and bending rigidity of the chassis, working in synergy with the front “double wishbone “quadrilateral” suspension, with a McPherson independent system at the rear. A servo-assisted hydraulic braking system uses discs on all four corners, ventilated at the front and solid at the rear. Two independent crossed circuits ensure control even in the unlikely event of a fault.
The sophisticated, interactive electronic devices include ABS, EBD, ASR, VDC with ASR, MSR and Brake Assist.
The passenger cabin has a non-deformable structure, and is designed as a survival cell, protected by anti-penetration bars and crumple zones to absorb impacts.
There are six airbags as standard : driver and passenger front airbags, two side airbags housed in the sides of the seats and two window airbags housed in the roof lining which protect the front and rear passengers. The front passenger airbag can be deactivated if a child seat is fitted. There is also a FPS Fire Prevention System which automatically cuts of the fuel supply in the event of a serious impact instantly.
