Control
Driving enjoyment is inextricably linked with control, and here the Alfa 159 excels. Take the handling, for instance – the product of a finely-tuned suspension system that comprises high wishbones at the front and an advanced multi-link set-up at the rear. This combination ensures that the wheels always stay in contact with the road, and that the maximum amount of tyre tread is kept in contact with the tarmac.
The reassuring feeling of control is enhanced still further by the incredibly quick and precise steering that requires just 2.3 turns from lock to lock. Should the car swerve or start to take a bend too fast, VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) stability control cuts in automatically to reduce the power from the engine or apply the appropriate brakes and thus prevent understeer or oversteer – invariably without the driver even realising.
Drivers can be completely confident in the Alfa 159’s stopping ability, thanks to the powerful Brembo disc brakes all round and the latest Bosch ABS with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution).
Sturdiness
The torsional stiffness of the Alfa 159 is at the very top of the segment: a crucial element for outstanding sturdiness and excellent road-holding, as well as total safety. The bodyshell uses both high-strength, dual-phase steels and multi-thickness metals welded partly using laser technology. The high level of chassis stiffness means that the steering and suspension always work in the best possible conditions.
The “premium” floorpan combines with the bodyshell to form a high-strength, compact structure with guaranteed performance over time.
Chassis stiffness is also synonymous with safety and strength, certified by stringent EuroNCAP tests. The Alfa 159, a tremendous technological achievement that fuses safety, comfort and high performance for unrivalled driving pleasure.

The Alfa 159 has proved that it is among the very best in terms of safety, passing the strict Euro NCAPsafety tests, scoring five stars – the top score – for the protection of occupants and four stars for child safety.
These excellent results were reached thanks to the use of new high-strength, dual-phase steels for the body, non-deformable floorpan and the solid engine support structure, ensuring the maximum protection for passengers even in the event of a high-speed collision.
All the main elements of the body shell are securely inter-connected; three load lines at the front and continuous long members along the length of the car ensure outstanding safety and driving comfort.
The passive safety systems are designed for the best possible results. As well as the front, side and window air bags, the car is also equipped with innovative knee-bags for the driver, available for the passenger on request. For smaller passengers, triple Isofix fittings are available in the rear for child seats.
